Julie Vaughan-Graham, PT, PhD

Julie Vaughan Graham PT, PhD is a clinical physiotherapist, Bobath instructor, researcher and academic scholar.

Her thesis established the Bobath concept as a viable and credible practice for neuro-rehabilitation. Her post-doctoral work continues to build on this growing knowledge base.

The Bobath Concept

The Bobath Concept is an individualized, therapeutic approach that uses neuroplasticity, to optimize movement recovery and reveals potential for persons with neurological injuries.

Three principles of the Bobath Concept are:

  1. Functional movement analysis: considers how sensory information influences perceptual processes and movement patterns.
  2. Quality of movement performance: the ability to receive, integrate and respond to sensory information.
  3. Facilitation: the active process that influences sensory information through therapeutic handling, environmental and verbal cues.
