This client workshop and clinical reasoning discussion explores:

  • The inter-relationship of lower and upper limb movement as well as the role of the trunk and head
  • Through the analysis of the client’s locomotion pattern I gain an understanding of the influence of his right upper limb on his acquisition of right single leg stance
  • Through the development of a working hypothesis, his impaired right single leg stance is connected with the significant left scapula malalignment and subsequent limited left upper limb function.
  • The intervention demonstrates the facilitation of a series of postures and postural transitions each of which enable improved alignment and activation of all four limbs, trunk and head such that a treatment flow is created revolving around the working hypothesis.
  • The success of the intervention is evaluated through independent sit to stand to sit, and facilitated walking without the need for upper limb compensation.
